SWINSIDE STONE CIRCLE

This little-visited stone circle is one of the finest in Britain. It has 55 stones, up to 3 metres (10 feet) high. Like Castlerigg, it dates from the Neolithic period and its entrance seems to line up with the midwinter sunset. Its other name, Sunkenkirk, comes from a legend that people tried to build a church here, but the Devil kept pulling it down.

MUNCASTER CASTLE

Muncaster offers a full day out – or more – with something for everyone. From families with children looking for a range of activities to keep everyone entertained to groups looking for an excellent value venue for a day excursion or to visit one of a range of evening events for arts and culture, Muncaster Castle and Gardens and its Hawk & Owl Centre earn their place as a top attraction in Cumbria.

WINDERMERE CRUISES

Windermere Lake Cruises will transport you amongst the grandeur of spectacular mountain scenery, and alongside the many small islands and secluded bays. Cruises vary in length from 45 minutes to 3 hours – or you can even spend all day on and around the lake with the Freedom of the Lake ticket. Set sail from Bowness, Ambleside or Lakeside and access many other Lake District attractions from the various destinations.

LAKELAND MOTOR MUSEUM

Explore a collection of over 30,000 exhibits that trace the development of road transport throughout the twentieth century – cycles, motorbikes, motor cars and automobilia. Housed in a converted mill in the heart of the Lake District. This is much more than just a motor museum, with local history, period shopping displays and a picturesque riverside cafe makes it a great day out for the whole family to enjoy.

Steam Trains in the Lake District & Cumbria

There are four railway attractions to visit to ride on steam trains in the Lake District and Cumbria, all providing fun family days out. Discover the different steam train and railways attractions at Ravenglass and Eskdale known as La’al Ratty! Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway that connects to the Lake Cruises, South Tynedale Railway and The Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum near Keswick.

CONISTON BOATING CENTRE

At Coniston Boating Centre, there are motor boats (including an accessible motor boat), rowing boats, sit on top kayaks and open top Canadian canoes, paddle boards and sailing dinghies. If you prefer your feet firmly on dry land, you can hire bikes too and experience the fantastic scenery by mountain bike as you explore a selection of different routes on offer.

If you are staying at the Beeches Caravan Park you have the great good fortune to be right next door to one of Cumbria’s most exciting new restaurants, The Bar ‘n’ Bistro, where Andrea and Hal Peverley specialise in fine, bistro-style food and real ales in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. All special diets catered for.

Most of the local villages have pubs or restaurants, all offering excellent food and good beer, wines and spirits. Why not visit Bothel, Parsonby, Crosby or Dovenby? We are also close to Cockermouth which boasts several exceptionally good restaurants.
